How to make a flyer online for free in Word
Word for the web comes with a free Microsoft account, which also covers the Word apps on iOS and Android. Microsoft's flyer template gallery has event, business and holiday designs, and the steps are short:
- In Word for the web, open the flyer templates and pick one.
- Double-click the template to edit it online.
- Replace the flyer text, then change the headings and colors to suit your event.
- Save it as a PDF to print, or share it with a link.

Google Docs for plain text flyers
Google Docs is open to anyone with a Google Account, and only a few extras, like starting a Meet video call inside a document, need a Workspace plan. Docs suits a flyer that is mostly words: a sign-up sheet, a lost cat notice, a class schedule.
- Open Google Docs on a computer, then click Template Gallery in the top-right corner.
- Click a template, or start a blank document. A copy opens for you to edit.
- Type the headline in large bold type, then the day and date, the hours and the place, each on its own line.
- Click File, then Download, and choose PDF to print it.
Canva Free for template flyers
On Canva Free, a flyer made from free templates and images costs nothing to build, download or share, and you pay only if you add a premium image. The library runs past 1 million templates and 2 million photos, icons and illustrations.
- Open Canva and search "Flyers".
- Open one of the results and swap in your own words, colors and fonts.
- Add your own photo or one from Canva's library.
- Select Share, then Download, and choose PDF Print for a print shop (300 dpi, with bleed and crop marks), or PNG for posting.
Two limits matter on the free plan. CMYK color is kept for Pro and other paid plans, so a print shop that insists on CMYK needs a different route. Apple Pages on iPhone, iPad and Mac
Apple doesn't charge for Pages or ask for a subscription to create and edit in it. Page layout templates like Tab Flyer hold each piece of text in a movable box, and the Export menu turns the result into a PDF for paper or an image file for sharing. LibreOffice for flyers with no account
LibreOffice is free, open source office software, and version 26.8 downloads straight from its site for Windows, macOS and Linux, with no sign-in step. Use Draw for a flyer with shapes and a photo, or Writer for a text flyer. Export as PDF saves a file that prints with its formatting intact on any computer with a PDF reader.
Which free flyer maker works without a watermark
Word, Google Docs, Pages and LibreOffice are document apps, so the PDF you save is just your page. The free design sites and AI tools differ:
- PosterMyWall. A free download gets a tiny watermark in its bottom-left corner unless you pick a social media size, and PosterMyWall says that file isn't crisp enough to print. Its pricing page lists high-res downloads, without the watermark, from $5.99.
- Canva Free. A design that uses premium elements comes out as a watermarked draft unless you buy a license for those elements or upgrade. A flyer built only from free templates, images and fonts downloads without one.
- ChatGPT. OpenAI describes its mark as invisible: images carry C2PA metadata and an invisible watermark that help identify them as made with its tools.
- Microsoft Designer. Anything its AI features produce is tagged with content credentials, a metadata record of where the image came from.
- Toybox AI. Toybox doesn't currently add watermarks to AI-generated results, and memes made on the free plan include a small Toybox logo. It isn't a free way to make a flyer, though, as the last section explains.

Making a flyer free without signing up
LibreOffice is the only method here with no account at all. Word for the web needs a free Microsoft account, Google Docs a Google Account, and Microsoft Designer a Microsoft account. Canva Free is itself a plan on a Canva account, and Toybox needs a free account before you can make anything.
How to create your own flyer, step by step
Whichever tool you use, a flyer works when a stranger walking past can take in the facts from a few steps away. Write these down before you pick a template:
- The name. "Fall Book Swap" or "Spring Plant Sale", not "You're Invited".
- Weekday and date. "Saturday, October 17", not "10/17".
- Start and end time. "9 AM to 1 PM".
- Where, exactly. The building number and street, and the room or door if people could get lost.
- Who it's for, and the price. "Families welcome, free" or "$10 at the door".
- One call to action. "RSVP by October 14 at 555-0142" or "Scan to register".
- One picture or none. A single photo or illustration leaves room for large type.
Then set the size. For anything read up close, the print shop 4OVER4 recommends 300 pixels per inch, so multiply each side in inches by 300:
