The quickest way to make a flyer for Facebook is to design one 4:5 portrait image at 1440 x 1800 pixels and post it with the details typed into the post. The same image posts whole on Instagram and works if you boost it as an ad. Stories need a taller 9:16 version, and an event page shows the flyer as its cover photo. Below are the sizes Meta and Instagram set for each placement, a free way to build the image, event steps, ad text limits, and fixes for flyers that come out cropped or blurry.
5 ways to put a flyer on Facebook and Instagram
Each placement puts the flyer in front of a different group of people. As of September 2026:
| Method | Who sees it | What you need | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Photo post on your profile or Page | Friends or followers | A 4:5 image | News for people who already follow you |
| Post in a local group | Group members | A 4:5 image and the group's rules | Yard sales, school events, lost pets |
| Facebook event | Invited guests and anyone the privacy setting allows | A cover photo, plus the flyer as a post | Anything with a date people RSVP to |
| Boosted post or ad | People you target, in feed and Stories | A 4:5 image and an ad budget | Reaching people outside your followers |
| Instagram post and Story | Your Instagram followers | A 4:5 image and a 9:16 version | The same audience on Instagram |
Facebook and Instagram flyer sizes
Meta's ads guide gives a recommended size for each placement, and Instagram's Help Center sets the rules for regular posts. Building to the ad numbers means one image works whether you post it or boost it later. As of September 2026:
| Placement | Shape | Size | Rules to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Facebook feed ad | 4:5 portrait | 1440 x 1800 px recommended | 600 px wide minimum; JPG or PNG up to 30 MB |
| Instagram post | 1.91:1 (landscape) up to 3:4 (portrait) | Stored no wider than 1080 px | Other shapes get cropped; wider files are sized down |
| Instagram feed ad | 4:5 portrait | 1440 x 1800 px recommended | Nothing taller than 4:5; 500 px wide minimum |
| Facebook and Instagram Stories | 9:16 vertical | 1440 x 2560 px recommended | No text in the top 14%, the bottom 35% or the outer 6% on each side |
Two numbers matter most. A 4:5 flyer fits every feed placement in the table, which is why it's the safe default. And Meta's Stories safe zone keeps almost half the height (14% at the top plus 35% at the bottom) clear of text, because the call-to-action button and the profile icon can cover it, so Story text has to live in the middle band. For print sizes next to these, see standard flyer sizes in inches and pixels.
How to make a flyer for Facebook in Google Slides
Google Slides lets you set a page size in pixels, which makes it a free way to build a flyer image at exactly Meta's size from any computer with a Google Account.
- Open a new presentation in Google Slides.
- Click File, then Page setup, open the size menu, and choose Custom. Enter 1440 by 1800 and pick pixels as the unit. Click OK.
- Add a background image or a single photo with Insert, then Image. Upload from your computer, or pick one from Drive or Photos.
- Type the event name as the largest text, then the day, date and time, then the place. Keep text at least 100 pixels in from every edge.
- Click File, then Download, and choose a file type. Meta's feed specs take JPG or PNG, so pick one of those to post it as a photo.
- For Stories, duplicate the file, set the page to 1440 by 2560 pixels, and move the text into the middle band.
To design on a phone instead, making a flyer on your iPhone walks through the phone apps, with an Android section too.
How to make a flyer on Facebook: posting it
Make the image first, then bring it to a post, a group or an event. A few habits keep a flyer post useful after the first glance:
- Type the details into the post text. Put the date, time, full street address, price and how to RSVP in the text, word for word the same as the flyer, so people can copy them without zooming into the image.
- One flyer per post. Make the flyer the only image in the post, and put extra photos in the comments.
- Check the group's rules first. Read them before you share a flyer to a buy-and-sell or neighborhood group, and look for a set day or thread for promotions.
- Post it again closer to the date. A second post two days before can say "this Saturday" in the text.
How to make a Facebook event flyer
A Facebook event gives people one page with the date, the place and a way to say they're going. Facebook's steps from a computer:
- In the left menu of your Feed, open Events (it may sit under See More).
- Click Create new event.
- Under "Is it in person or virtual?", pick In person.
- Under "Who can see it?", pick who can see and join. This choice is locked once the event exists, so a private event can't become public later.
- Follow the prompts to add the location, the description and the cover photo.
- Click Create event.
To add or swap the cover later, go to Events, then Your Events, then Hosting, open the event, click Edit, then Add, and upload the image. Facebook lets you reposition the photo before you click Save, and you can't change the cover's size after it's added, so look at how the preview frames your flyer. If the event name or date gets cut off, make a wider version with only those two lines in the middle. Then share the full portrait flyer as a post with the event link in the text, so people see every detail and can respond from the event page.
Boosting a flyer as a Facebook ad
A boosted post or ad uses the same 4:5 image at 1440 x 1800 pixels. Meta's text recommendations for Facebook feed ads, as of September 2026, are 50 to 150 characters of primary text and a 27-character headline. That headline limit is tighter than it sounds. "Trunk or Treat, Sat Oct 31" is 26 characters, so it fits. "Join Us for Our Neighborhood Trunk or Treat" doesn't.
Put the offer and the date in the primary text, keep the flyer's own words short, and make sure the image still makes sense with no text around it.
How to make a flyer for Instagram
An Instagram post can use the same 4:5 flyer as Facebook. Instagram's Help Center says it accepts photo shapes between 1.91:1 landscape and 3:4 portrait and keeps posts no wider than 1080 pixels: it sizes wider files down and crops shapes outside that range. So a 1440 x 1800 flyer goes up as 1080 x 1350, uncropped. A US letter print file (8.5 x 11) also fits the range and posts at about 1080 x 1398. A print file in A4 or tabloid size is taller than 3:4 and loses part of its top or bottom.
For Stories, Meta recommends 9:16 at 1440 x 2560 pixels. Keep text inside the safe zone: 14% from the top is about 358 pixels, 35% from the bottom is 896 pixels, and 6% from each side is about 86 pixels. That leaves a middle area of about 1267 x 1306 pixels. A 4:5 flyer scaled to about 1045 x 1306 pixels fits inside it, centered, with a solid color filling the rest.
For carousels, captions and Instagram-only formats, see the Instagram post maker guide. A flyer can also become a short vertical clip for Reels, which animating a flyer into a video walks through.
Text tips for a flyer seen on a phone
A Facebook flyer gets a glance as someone scrolls, so the words have to work at phone size.
- Event name first, date second. Make the name the biggest text and the day and date the next biggest.
- Spell out the day. Write "Saturday, October 31", not "10/31", so nobody has to work out the weekday.
- Four facts, not a paragraph. Name, date and time, place, and one reason to come. Everything else goes in the post text.
- Keep Story text in the middle band. Meta suggests leaving the top 14% and the bottom 35% of a Story free of text.
- Strong contrast. Dark text on a light background, or light on dark. Text over a busy photo is hard to read at phone size.
- Match the post text exactly. If the flyer says 5 PM and the post says 5:30, people have to ask which one is right.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The top or bottom is cut off on Instagram | The image is taller than 3:4, such as an A4 or 11 x 17 print file | Export a 4:5 version at 1440 x 1800 pixels |
| The flyer looks blurry | The image is under 1080 pixels wide, or it's a screenshot of a PDF | Export straight from the design app at 1440 pixels wide |
| Story text is hidden behind buttons | Text is in the bottom 35% or top 14% | Move it into the middle band of the canvas |
| A private event can't be made public | Facebook doesn't allow privacy changes after an event is created | Create a new event with the right setting |
| The event cover cuts off the date | The portrait flyer doesn't fit the cover area | Reposition it before saving, or use a wider version with the text centered |
| The ad headline runs long | It's over Meta's 27-character recommendation | Cut it to the event name and date |
Make a Facebook flyer in Flyer Maker
Toybox AI's Flyer Maker makes the feed image directly. Its default size, Portrait (4:5), is labeled "Instagram post" and matches the shape Meta recommends for the feed.
- Describe the flyer. In "Describe your flyer", list what's happening, the day and date, the start and end time, the full address, the cost, and how people RSVP. Leave one out and the tool may invent a line to fill the space.
- Keep the size on Portrait. It's the 4:5 shape every feed placement accepts. Tall (3:4) also posts whole on Instagram, but it's too tall for feed ads.
- Open "More options" and pick "Quality". 2K gives 1536 x 1920 pixels, above Meta's 1440 x 1800 recommendation. 1K is 1024 x 1280, which clears the 600-pixel minimum but sits below the recommendation.
- Tap "Create flyer" and hold it next to your notes: date, time, address, price. For a correction, type it into "Want to change something?" under the result (currently 60 credits, 70 for 2K, 90 for 4K).
- Download the PNG and post it with the same details typed into the post text.
Flyer Maker has no 9:16 or square size. For a Story, place the Portrait flyer on a 1440 x 2560 canvas as described above. On a Pro plan, "Open in Smart Editor" can redraw it in Story 9:16, but the whole image is redrawn to fit the new shape, so read every word again afterward.
A description with everything a Facebook flyer needs looks like this:
