What Etsy allows in listing photos
Etsy's Listing Image Requirements start from one rule: "use original photos of the actual product buyers will receive, not renderings or stock photos". The exceptions depend on how the item is made, so check this table before you make a single mockup.

Three more rules apply. The first photo of a personalized item can never be an undecorated blank or a mockup showing sample wording such as "Your Text Here". If a production partner makes or prints the item, you have to disclose that partner in the listing. How to create mockups for Etsy in Canva
Canva Mockups places your design onto a ready-made product photo. Its templates cover posters and art prints, apparel, home decor, packaging, and phone and website screens. A Canva Free account gets up to 2,500 mockups at no cost, and Canva says its free mockups carry no watermark on a Free account, though ones made during a free Canva Pro trial may. Following Canva's own instructions:
- Sign in to Canva and start a new design, or open one you already have.
- In the sidebar, click Elements, then Mockups, and click a template, such as a framed print or a mug.
- Upload your design (JPG, PNG or PDF) and drag it onto the template.
- Adjust the placement, then fine-tune the photo with Canva's editing tools.
- Download the result as a JPG or PNG for your listing.
Canva also says Mockups can analyze a photo you upload, find a surface where a product could go, and turn that photo into a template. How to make mockups for an Etsy listing from your own photo
For handmade work, the mockup starts with a real photo. Etsy's own photo advice is specific: shoot horizontally, leave empty space around the whole item, and keep its most important part in the center, because the first photo gets cropped into square, portrait and landscape thumbnails. Aim for 2000 px or more on the shorter side; the Etsy mockup size guide has the pixel table for each shape.
- Set the item on a plain surface next to a window, with the room lights off, so the light comes from one direction.
- Shoot the front, the back, a close detail of the texture, and one shot in your hand for scale.
- Keep the lens at the item's height, so a mug looks like a mug and not like a bowl.
- Pick the sharpest front shot as the source for any extra scenes.

A good Etsy mockup answers a question the plain product photo leaves open. With 20 photo slots, each one should show something the others don't.
- Show scale in one photo. A necklace on a neck, a print over a sofa or a mug in a hand shows size at a glance, next to the dimensions in your description.
- Match the scene to the use. A planner belongs on a desk and a bath bomb near a tub. A beach backdrop behind a wool hat raises questions.
- Keep one shape across the set. Etsy recommends uploading every photo in the same shape as the first one.
- Keep the light direction consistent. A set where shadows fall left in one photo and right in the next looks assembled.
- Check the text on the product. Template mockups can warp a design around a curve, and AI scenes can redraw small lettering. Zoom in on every word.
- Write alt text for each image. Keep each one under Etsy's suggested 250 characters and describe what the photo shows, like "Speckled blue ceramic mug held in one hand, about 4 inches tall".
How to add mockups to an Etsy listing
Mockups go into the same Photo and video section as your other listing photos. On the Etsy website:

How to make a video mockup for Etsy
Etsy gives each listing two video slots. Clips top out at 15 seconds and 100 MB, and MP4, MOV and other common formats upload. Audio is stripped on upload, so the motion has to explain the product on its own. Resolution has to be at least 500 px, and 1080 px or more is what Etsy calls ideal.
The simplest video mockup is filmed: hold the real item and turn it slowly in front of your phone. A second route animates a mockup still. Add the still to Video Creator (Pro plan) with "Start from a photo", describe the motion, and it returns one clip of 4, 6 or 8 seconds, wide (16:9) or vertical (9:16).
