New Year AI Photo Prompts: Copy-Paste Party and Countdown Edits

A New Year AI photo prompt turns an ordinary selfie or party snapshot into a countdown picture: a gold glitter portrait, balloons reading "2027", or a midnight kiss under falling confetti. Each one is meant for Smart Editor: add your photo, then drop the text into "What should change?". ChatGPT, the Gemini app and similar photo editors can run them too, though each one interprets the words its own way. New Year's Eve lands on Thursday, December 31, and the balloon and sign prompts write out "2027" so you can check each digit.

How a good New Year AI photo prompt is built

A countdown edit needs four parts:

1. The setting. A rooftop, a living room with streamers, a dark studio with a glitter wall.
2. The light. Fireworks light is colored and comes from above. Sparklers light faces from below. Candles are warm and low. Say which one you want.
3. The numbers, in quotes. Write "2027" in quotes, say where it goes, and say it appears once. OpenAI, whose GPT Image 2.5 runs Smart Editor, recommends in its prompting guide that you quote required text, spell it out when needed, and state how many times it appears.
4. What must not change. Your face, hair, expression and pose, and every other person in the photo.

A fill-in version:

Replace the background with [New Year setting], with light coming from [light source]. Add "[greeting or 2027]" once, [position], in [lettering style]. Do not change my face, hair, expression, skin tone or pose, and leave everything else in the photo as it is.

A dressed-up look for a profile picture on New Year's Day.

Replace the background with a wall of gold sequins catching a soft spotlight, with fine gold glitter drifting through the air in front of it. Add a warm rim light along my hair and shoulders. Do not change my face, hair, makeup, expression or outfit, and keep the photo looking real.

Change: gold to silver, or add "a black velvet blazer" if you want the outfit changed too.

A studio look for a photo where you're sitting down, since the edit swaps what you sit on.

Seat me on top of a giant mirror-tiled disco ball in a dark studio, with smaller disco balls hanging behind me and silver confetti in the air and across the floor. A hard white spotlight from above makes the mirror tiles throw small dots of light on my skin and clothes. Keep my face, hair, expression and outfit exactly the same, and keep my pose as close to the original as possible.

Change: silver confetti to gold, or the dark studio to a white one.

For a photo taken outside at night.

Put me on a rooftop above the city at midnight, with fireworks bursting in the sky behind me in gold, red and white. The fireworks throw a soft colored glow on my face and hair from above. Leave my face, hairstyle, expression and clothing exactly as they are.

Change: "a rooftop above the city" to "a lake dock" for fireworks reflected in the water.

Sparkler portrait

A close portrait with a warm glow from below.

Put a lit sparkler in my raised right hand, with bright sparks and a small trail of light, and darken the background to a night sky. Light my face warmly from below, the way a sparkler does. Keep my face, eyes, smile and hair unchanged, and draw my hand naturally around the sparkler.

Change: one sparkler to two, one in each hand.

Black and white confetti moment

A timeless look that skips the color entirely.

Turn this photo into a black and white portrait with large pieces of confetti falling around me, some in sharp focus near the camera and some blurred behind me. Add soft film grain. Do not alter my face, expression, hair or pose.

Change: keep the confetti gold while the rest of the photo is black and white.

2027 balloon and sign prompts

Each of these puts the year in the picture. Read the digits on every result, because a single swapped digit ruins the photo.

Gold number balloons

Add four large gold foil number balloons behind me reading "2027", in that order from left to right, floating at head height with thin white ribbons. Show the number once. My face, hair, expression and outfit stay as they are, and the balloons pick up the room's light.

Change: gold to rose gold or silver.

Midnight kiss under confetti

Put the two of us under a shower of gold and silver confetti at midnight, with a blurred party and string lights behind us. Keep both of our faces, hair, outfits and the way we are holding each other exactly the same.

Change: "gold and silver" to one color to match your outfits.

Countdown clock behind a couple

Place the two of us in front of a large vintage clock face lit from behind, its hands one minute before midnight, with a few gold balloons at the edges. Do not change either of our faces, expressions, hair or clothes.

Change: the clock to a big digital countdown reading "00:00:10".

Friends with party hats

Add shiny gold cone party hats to all four of us and streamers hanging from the ceiling behind us, with a banner reading "2027" once across the top. There are four people. Keep all four faces, expressions, outfits and poses exactly the same, and add nobody.

Change: party hats to tiaras and top hats.

Family countdown at home

Turn our living room into a family New Year's Eve party: paper streamers, noisemakers on the coffee table, glasses of sparkling cider, and a paper banner reading "Happy New Year" once above the sofa. Keep every family member's face, age, hair and pose exactly as they are.

Change: the banner text, and add the number of people so the kids all stay in the picture.

Dog at the countdown

Use a picture of your dog on the couch or a chair.

Put a small gold party hat on my dog and a sparkly black bow tie on his collar, and add a marquee sign with round light bulbs spelling "2027" on the side table beside him, shown once. Scatter a few streamers and a party horn on the cushion. Keep his face, markings, fur color, ears and size exactly the same.

Change: "his" to "her", or the dog to your cat, with "keep her eye color and fur pattern" in the keep line.

Happy New Year greeting prompts

Tips for better New Year AI photo results

Quote the year and say it once. "2027" in quotes, with "shown once", gives the edit one exact string to draw. Before you post, enlarge the picture and read the year digit by digit.

Name the digit order for balloons. With four separate balloons, the order is one more thing to get right, so write "reading 2027 from left to right" and check it.

Match the fireworks to your photo's light. One sample edit in OpenAI's prompting guide asks for the light, shadows and color temperature of the source photo to carry over, so the new element doesn't look pasted on. A selfie taken under warm kitchen lights won't match cold blue fireworks, so pick "warm gold fireworks" or retake the photo outside at night.

Keep hands out of big changes. Sparklers, flutes of sparkling wine and party horns all need a hand to hold them. If your hand already holds something in the photo, put the new prop there instead of asking for a new pose.

Restate the keep line on follow-up edits. When you add confetti after the balloons, paste the face and hair line again, and compare the third version with your original photo, not only with the second.
