A Halloween party flyer tells guests three things fast: what kind of party it is, when to show up, and what to wear. The lines for a 21-and-over house party, a pumpkin-painting party for preschoolers and a costume contest at a bar have almost nothing in common. This page gives each its own wording, four design styles to borrow, and prompts to run in Flyer Maker. For birthdays, block parties and other parties, see the main party flyer ideas.
What to put on a Halloween party flyer
Write the details down before you pick a look. Halloween flyers lean on spooky lettering, and the more decorative the headline, the plainer the details under it should be.
- A party name. "Creature Feature Halloween Party" is easier to remember in a group chat than "Halloween Party".
- The night, date and start time. "Friday, October 30, 8 PM." In 2026, Halloween itself is a Saturday, so say which night.
- The address and the way in. "58 Larkspur Court, backyard entrance through the side gate."
- Who it's for. "Ages 21 and over", "Ages 3 to 7 with a grown-up" or "Families welcome". This one line changes who shows up.
- The costume rule. "Costumes required", "Costumes encouraged" or "Come as you are".
- How to RSVP, with a deadline. "RSVP by Monday, October 26 to hosts@example.com." A deadline tells you how much food to buy.
- Food and drinks. "Snacks and punch provided. BYOB." or "Pizza at 6."
- The contest and its prizes. "Costume contest at 10 PM, prizes for scariest, funniest and best couple."
- End time or pickup time. Kids' parties need a pickup time; house parties need a quiet-hours end.
- Price or tickets, for public events: "$15 at the door, $10 before 11 PM."
- ID check, for 21-and-over events: "ID required at the door."
- One parking line. "Street parking only, please keep the driveways clear."
Halloween party flyer ideas and wording
Each kind of party below gets headlines, supporting lines and a call to action. Names, dates and prices are fictional; replace them with yours.
Adult Halloween party wording (21 and over, BYOB)
- Headlines: "Creature Feature: A Grown-Ups Halloween Party", "Boos and Brews", "Grown-Up Ghouls Night"
- Supporting lines: "BYOB, snacks and punch provided. Ages 21 and over." "Costumes required. Best costume wins a bottle of wine."
- Call to action: "RSVP by Monday, October 26 so we know how much ice to buy."
Write "21 and over" on any party where alcohol is served or brought, and add "ID required at the door" if you plan to check. If the party is at a rented hall, a restaurant or a bar, ask the venue whether BYOB is allowed before the flyer says so.
Kids Halloween party wording
- Headlines: "Little Pumpkins Halloween Party", "The Not-So-Spooky Party", "Costume Parade and Pumpkin Painting"
- Supporting lines: "Ages 3 to 7. Grown-ups stay and play." "Face painting station, masks optional." "Pickup at 3 PM."
- Call to action: "RSVP to Dana at 555-0123 by Wednesday, October 21 and list any food allergies."
The face-paint line also follows the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), whose Halloween safety tips suggest non-toxic makeup or a decorative hat in place of a mask, and a costume hem short enough that kids don't trip. For a parking-lot event instead of a party, use the trunk or treat flyer wording.
Costume contest wording and prize categories
A costume contest line gives guests a reason to dress up, and named categories spread the prizes around.
- Headlines: "Costume Contest at 10 PM", "Dress to Win: $100 for Best Costume"
- Categories: Scariest, Funniest, Best Homemade, Best Couple or Group, Most Creative, Best Kid Costume, Best Pet Costume
- Rules line: "Sign up at the DJ booth by 11 PM. Judged by crowd applause."
Plan for a crowd of witches and vampires. In the National Retail Federation's 2026 Halloween survey, 4.8 million adults planned witch costumes and 4.2 million planned vampires, the top two adult choices. A separate "Best Witch or Vampire" prize keeps those guests from splitting the main vote. Guests stuck for an idea can preview a look on their own photo with an AI Halloween costume generator.
Haunted house and haunted garage wording
- Headlines: "The Haunted Garage on Larkspur Court", "Enter If You Dare"
- Supporting lines: "Scary hours 7 to 9 PM, recommended for ages 10 and up." "Lights-on tour 5:30 to 6:30 PM for little ones."
- Call to action: "Free entry. Canned food donations go to the neighborhood food pantry."
Two sets of hours on one flyer let parents of small kids come early without a scare.
Masquerade and office party wording
- Masquerade headlines: "Masquerade Halloween Ball", "An Evening in Masks"
- Masquerade lines: "Dress code: black tie optional, masks required. Masks at the door for anyone who forgets."
- Office headlines: "Halloween at the Office", "Costume Friday"
- Office lines: "Work-friendly costumes only. Contest in the break room at 3 PM, voting by ballot."
Design tips for Halloween party flyers
The four styles below fit the adult, kids', club and masquerade parties. They double as Halloween party flyer inspo if you're still deciding on a look, and each lists Flyer Maker settings to start from.
Retro horror for adult house parties. A 1950s drive-in monster poster uses a hand-lettered title, a grainy paper texture and one giant original monster, such as a spider over a town. Choose Retro style and Dark colors.
Soft pastels for little kids. Pastel orange, lavender and mint with smiling ghosts keep it gentle for three-year-olds. Choose Playful style, Pastel colors and Illustration pictures, and put "nothing scary" in your description.
Neon for club nights. Glowing pink, green and orange on black suits a phone screen and a bar's promo feed. Choose the Nightlife flyer type, Bold style and Color blends pictures. Keep this one digital, because a black flyer drinks toner.
Black and gold for a masquerade. A lace mask, gold type and a lot of empty black space signal a dress-up evening. Choose Elegant or Luxury style with Dark colors.
Keep the spooky font for the headline only. Dripping or scratchy lettering is fine for "Creature Feature", but the date, address and RSVP need plain type. Shrink the flyer to thumbnail size on your phone and check that you can still read the date.
Use original monsters, not famous ones. Characters from horror films belong to their studios. A made-up creature, a bat or a black cat says Halloween without borrowing anyone's character.
Halloween party flyer sizes and printing
Party invites travel by text and social posts, so start with the 4:5 phone version and print just the copies you'll hang.
| Where you'll share it | Size | Pixels at 300 DPI | Flyer Maker |
|---|---|---|---|
| Group text, Instagram or Facebook post | 4:5 portrait | Screen only | Portrait, 1K |
| Front door, office board | Letter, 8.5 x 11 in | 2550 x 3300 | Tall, 4K |
| Venue TV screen, email invite | Landscape | Screen only | Wide, 1K or 2K |
4OVER4's print guide puts flyers at 300 DPI because people read them at arm's length. Flyer Maker's Tall size at 4K is 2480 x 3312 pixels, so printed 11 inches tall it's about 8.2 inches wide at roughly 300 pixels per inch, with a thin white strip on each side of a letter page. For printing, choose 2K or 4K. Posters and half sheets are in the full list of flyer sizes.

Flyer Maker works as a Halloween party flyer maker once it has the whole invitation in words, so write that first.
- In Flyer Maker, write the full invitation into "Describe your flyer". Party name, day, date, time, address, who's invited, the costume rule, the RSVP deadline and how to RSVP. A missing detail can come back as a label or a slogan you never wrote.
- Pick the Size. Portrait for texts and social posts, Tall for the copy you print.
- Set Flyer type to Party or Nightlife under "More options", then pick the Style, Colors and Pictures from the design tips above.
- Add your logo if a bar, venue or company is hosting. Flyer Maker usually places it small, in the header or footer.
- Add the RSVP email or phone under "Contact info". Flyer Maker is designed to add only the contact details you give it, so type them exactly.
- Proofread before you share it. Match the weekday to the date, then check the address and the RSVP line. A fix typed into "Want to change something?" under the flyer currently costs 60 credits (70 for 2K, 90 for 4K), or you can change your description and make a fresh version.
After the party, spooky portrait prompts for costume selfies can turn your own costume photo into a portrait for next year's invite.
