- Open Images. Select More, then Images, or open the sidebar and choose Images.
- Pick a template. Choose a category, then a template that fits a logo. You can also skip templates and type your request in any chat.
- Replace the template's details with yours. Give the exact business name, what you sell, a single symbol, the style of lettering, your two colors and a plain white background.
- Answer the follow-up questions about style, or type your own answer.
- Pick the strongest version and ask for one change at a time in the same conversation.
- Fix one area with Select. Open the image, choose Select, highlight the part to change, then describe the change.
- Ask for a transparent version if you'll place the logo on photos or colored fabric.

Designing a logo with ChatGPT from a sketch works in the mobile app. Type @ in the message box, pick Sketch, and draw the shape, using the color, erase and undo tools as needed. Tap the checkmark to confirm the drawing. Add instructions for the subject, colors and style, such as "turn this into a flat two-color logo with thick lines", and send the message.
How to make a business logo with ChatGPT that works small
A business logo ends up as a favicon, a profile photo and a stamp long before it ends up on a sign, so test for those uses as you go.
- Ask for two shapes. Request a square version for icons and a wide version with the name beside the symbol for headers and signs.
- Shrink it. Google recommends a favicon larger than 48 x 48 px. Zoom your screenshot down to that size, and if the symbol turns into a blob, ask for fewer details.
- Request a one-color version. Ask for the same logo in solid black on white. A mark that needs color to make sense is hard to print on a receipt or a rubber stamp.
- Keep changes in one conversation. Select the version you chose and describe the change, instead of asking for a fresh logo every round.

Where a ChatGPT logo falls short
OpenAI's own documentation names the problems that matter most for logos, and none of them stops you from using ChatGPT for concepts.
- Lettering. OpenAI says its image models can still have trouble placing text exactly and keeping it crisp. Read the business name letter by letter on every version.
- Consistency. The models may not keep brand elements identical across several images, so the icon can shift when you only asked for a new font.
- Precise layouts. Putting elements in exact spots in a structured layout can be hard, which matters when you want the name centered under the icon.
- Loose selections. OpenAI notes that highlights in the editor aren't always exact, so a change to the icon can bleed into the lettering next to it.
- Pixel files. OpenAI's image models output PNG, JPEG or WebP. For vinyl lettering, embroidery or a large sign you need a vector file, so plan a redraw.
- Look-alike results. OpenAI's terms say ChatGPT's output isn't necessarily unique, and another user could get something close.

Who owns a logo you make with ChatGPT
OpenAI's terms say that, as between you and OpenAI, the output is yours, and OpenAI transfers to you whatever rights it holds in it. The same terms warn that other users may get similar output, and the transfer doesn't cover theirs. So before the logo goes on a sign or a box of business cards, make it more your own and check that nobody near you already uses something close.
- Rework it by hand. Change the symbol, the spacing or the lettering yourself, or have a designer redraw it as a vector. A reworked logo is less likely to match what another user got from a similar prompt.
- Search the name. Look up the business name in quotes on the web, on the map app your customers use and on the social platforms you plan to post on, and try spellings that sound alike.
- Search the symbol. Run the image through a reverse image search, then scroll through the logos of businesses in your trade for a similar shape.
- Keep your versions. Save the chat and each version you edited, so you can return to an earlier direction or remake a file later.
