AI Tools for Small Business Marketing: One Tool for Each Job

AI tools for small business marketing cover six everyday jobs: flyers, a logo, product photos, social posts, written copy and short audio ads. Use one tool per job and have a person check every price, date and claim before it goes out. Platform rules still apply: Google Business Profile photos should represent reality, and Etsy requires sellers to disclose items made with AI.

The AI tools for small business owners worth setting up are the ones that finish a marketing job you already do every month: the sale flyer, the logo on your Google profile, the product photos, the Instagram post, the email and the short radio or video ad. Each job below starts with the size or rule that applies, then gives wording or a prompt you can adapt and one tool that handles it, from Toybox AI or elsewhere. One hypothetical shop, Quillmere Bakery, runs through the examples so you can see the same offer carried from flyer to post to email.

Sale and event flyers you can print and post

A flyer made with AI still has to meet two tests: every detail is right, and the file has enough pixels for the paper. The print shop 4OVER4 recommends 300 DPI for cards and flyers, and a US Letter page (8.5 x 11 in) at 300 DPI works out to 2550 x 3300 px.

Flyer Maker designs a finished flyer from your description. At 4K, its Tall (3:4) size is 2480 x 3312 px, which is 8.3 x 11 in at 300 pixels per inch, so on a letter sheet it prints at about 290 pixels per inch with a slight trim. For printing, choose 2K or 4K.

Write the whole offer into the description: name, day and date, hours, street address, the deal and exactly how to respond. When a detail is missing, the tool fills the gap on its own, such as a made-up tagline or a button that literally reads "CALL TO ACTION". A full description reads like this:

Fall Customer Appreciation Sale at Quillmere Bakery, 318 Linden Avenue. Saturday, November 14, 7 AM to 3 PM. 20% off every pie and a free coffee with any loaf of bread. Pre-order pies by calling 555-0163. Warm cream and cinnamon colors with a photo of a lattice apple pie on a wooden counter. Headline: "Fall Customer Appreciation Sale".

Put your phone number or website in "Contact info", since only the contact details you type there get used, and switch on "Leave a blank square for your QR code" if you'll paste in a real code afterward. Wording for openings, sales and seasonal promotions is in these small business flyer ideas.

A logo for your sign, Google profile and shop icon

A small business logo has to work at every size it shows up, and two of those sizes are set by the platforms. Google Business Profile accepts JPG or PNG photos between 10 KB and 5 MB, recommends 720 x 720 px and needs at least 250 x 250 px, and you add a logo under Photos with "Add a logo". Etsy recommends a 500 x 500 px shop logo and doesn't support transparent PNGs: the clear parts of a transparent file show up black.

For a first draft, describe one symbol and two colors, for example "a lattice-top pie seen from above inside a circle, cinnamon brown and cream, simple serif lettering". Toybox's Logo Generator (Pro plan) turns that into up to four layouts of one design, including a square Icon for profiles and a Horizontal version for signs. Its PNG files have a background rather than transparency, which suits Etsy's rule, but they aren't vector files, so a sign shop will need a redraw.

Before you print anything, search the name and the design to make sure no business nearby already uses something similar: check the web, Google Maps and the social platforms you post on, and run a reverse image search on the symbol. What logo tools' terms say about who owns the result is covered in can AI make a logo, and trade-by-trade starting points are in these logo ideas for small businesses.

Product photos for your online shop

Marketplaces set minimums for product photos, and the file you upload has to meet them whatever made it. Etsy recommends listing photos at least 2000 px wide and tall, says the first photo should be at least 635 px on each side so it doesn't show up lower in searches, and warns that files over 1 MB may not finish uploading on a slow connection.

Product Mockup starts from a photo of your real product ("PNG or JPG. A plain background works best.") and places it into a scene: Studio ("Clean white background"), Workspace, In hand, On a model, Store shelf, Outdoors, Flat lay, or a Custom scene of up to 180 characters. Use "Anything else?" for staging and light, such as "soft window light from the left and a cinnamon stick beside the jar" for a jar of the bakery's apple butter. It currently costs 75 credits per image.

Two limits matter for listings. Toybox doesn't set an exact pixel size, so check the downloaded file against Etsy's 2000 px recommendation. Studio is an AI-made clean white backdrop, not a guaranteed pure white, so it isn't a promise that a marketplace's main-image rule is met. The tool also expects a photographed product; it doesn't print a flat design onto a blank mug or shirt.

AI for boutiques: clothes on a model

For a clothing boutique, the job is showing a garment worn without booking a photo shoot. Product Mockup's On a model scene ("Worn or held") stages the garment from your photo as if someone is wearing or holding it. Clothing Try-On (currently 75 credits) takes two photos, a person and one garment, and puts that garment on that person, one garment per run. Toybox's Terms prohibit generating images of real people without their explicit consent, so only use a person photo of someone who has agreed. Before a listing goes live, hold the real piece next to the screen and compare the color, the neckline and any print.

Instagram posts that match your flyer

An Instagram post keeps its original resolution when the image is between 320 and 1080 px wide and its shape falls between 1.91:1 and 3:4. Instagram crops photos outside that range and shrinks wider files to 1080 px. At 1080 px wide, 4:5 is 1080 x 1350 px and 3:4 is 1080 x 1440 px.

Flyer Maker's default size, Portrait (4:5) "Instagram post", fits that range, and so does Tall (3:4). At 1K, Portrait is 1024 x 1280 px, which Instagram keeps at its original size; at 2K it's 1536 x 1920 px, which Instagram scales down to 1080 wide. Make a separate post rather than squeezing the printed flyer into the feed, with fewer words and bigger type:

Thanksgiving pie pre-orders are open at Quillmere Bakery, 318 Linden Avenue. Apple, pumpkin and pecan pies, $24 each. Order by Wednesday, November 18 at 555-0163 and pick up Wednesday, November 25, 7 AM to 6 PM. Big, bold headline "Pie Pre-Orders Open" and a photo of three pies on a linen cloth. Keep the text short enough to read on a phone.

More layouts for carousels and promotions are on the Instagram post maker page, and exact pixel sizes are in the Instagram post size guide.

Captions, emails and product descriptions

With written copy, the draft comes fast and the checking is the real work. The SBA advises having someone review every AI-drafted message and campaign before it goes out and keeping private business details out of AI tools. It also warns that filters built to spot AI writing can flag an email as spam.

Give the tool the facts, not just the topic. A brief such as "Email to past customers: Thanksgiving pie pre-orders open November 14, pickup Wednesday, November 25 from 7 AM to 6 PM, $24 per pie, call 555-0163 to order, friendly and short" leaves nothing to invent. Any chat assistant can draft from a brief like that, including ChatGPT on its Free plan. AI Writer in Toybox takes a brief of up to 2,000 characters, a Type (Social post, Email, Product description, Ad and more) and a Length, and currently costs 5 credits, which the 20 free sign-up credits cover. It writes plain text and has no tone setting, so say "friendly" or "formal" in the brief. For listings, the product description generator page shows what details to include.

Short audio ads and jingles

A jingle for a video ad, a podcast spot or the local radio station has to fit the slot you bought, so plan to trim whatever the tool gives you. Music Generator (Pro plan, currently 95 credits) takes a Song title, a "Describe your song" box for genre, mood and instruments, and optional Lyrics with tags such as [Chorus]. Each run makes two MP3 versions, and there's no length setting, so cut the part you want in an audio editor.

Keep the lyrics to your name and one fact, for example "[Chorus] Fresh from the oven on Linden Avenue". Toybox's Terms say you own the rights to the outputs you generate (they list images, text, video, and code), subject to the Terms. They don't specifically mention songs, so read the Terms and the ad platform's music rules before an AI song runs in a paid spot. Examples and prompts are on the AI jingle generator page.

What to be careful about

These checks come from the platforms you post on and from what customers expect, and they apply however the image or text was made.

  • Reviews. Ask real customers for honest reviews and don't reward positive ones. Never post reviews you wrote yourself or AI-written ones credited to people who don't exist. Use AI to draft replies to the reviews you get instead, then edit them in your own words.
  • Photos that change reality. Google asks for Business Profile photos that are in focus, well lit and without significant alterations or heavy filters, and says the image should represent reality. Use real photos of your storefront and staff there.
  • AI-made products on Etsy. Etsy files seller-prompted AI creations under items designed by the seller, and those listings have to say AI was involved.
  • Claims in AI copy. Only claim what you can back up, and delete claims the draft adds on its own, such as "award-winning", "voted best in town" or a discount you never offered.
  • Promo emails. Every promo email should say what it's about in the subject line, include your business address and an easy unsubscribe link, and go only to people who asked to hear from you.
  • Look-alike names and logos. Before you print a new name or logo on signs and shirts, search it to make sure no one nearby already uses something similar, and read the tool's terms about who owns the output.
  • Customer data. Keep customer lists, payment details and private messages out of AI prompts, as the SBA advises. Toybox's privacy policy says your prompts, uploads and results aren't used to train AI models.

Make your first flyer in Flyer Maker

A flyer can be finished in one sitting, and its wording carries straight into the Instagram post and the email.

  1. Open Flyer Maker and write the offer in "Describe your flyer": the business name, day and date, hours, street address, the deal and how to respond.
  2. Tap "Add your logo" if you have one, so it appears on the design.
  3. Under Size, choose Tall for print, Portrait for Instagram or Wide for email and screens.
  4. Open More options and set Quality (2K or 4K for printing), Flyer type (Sale or Business), Style and Colors. "My brand colors" has no color picker, so name your colors in the description.
  5. Type your phone number or website in "Contact info".
  6. Tap "Create flyer" and give it about 30 seconds. A flyer currently costs 80 credits at 1K, 90 at 2K and 100 at 4K.
  7. Proofread every date, time, address, price and phone number against your notes. To fix one, type it in the "Want to change something?" box that appears with your finished flyer (currently 60 credits, 70 for 2K, 90 for 4K), or correct the description and run it again.

Frequently asked questions

Are there free AI tools for small businesses?

Yes, with limits. ChatGPT's Free plan includes image generation with its own usage limit, Canva Free comes with a limited monthly AI allowance, and Wixel's free plan downloads logos, SVG files included. New Toybox AI accounts get 20 free credits one time, which covers four AI Writer drafts at 5 credits each; AI image tools start at 35 credits.

Do I have to tell customers I used AI in my marketing?

Start with the platforms you sell on, since they set their own rules: Etsy requires listings for seller-prompted AI creations to say so, and Google asks for Business Profile photos that represent reality. Beyond that, the SBA calls telling customers a good practice that they're coming to expect. Reviews are a separate matter: ask real customers for honest ones, don't reward positive ones, and never post reviews that you or an AI wrote.

Can AI write replies to my online reviews?

Yes. Drafting polite, considered answers to online reviews is one of the AI uses the SBA lists. Paste the review into a text tool, ask for a short reply that names the specific problem and what you'll do, then edit it in your own words before posting. Never use AI to write reviews of your own business.

Can a boutique use AI product photos in its online listings?

Yes, as long as the photo shows the item the customer will receive. Product Mockup places a photo of your real garment into a scene such as On a model or Flat lay, and it aims to keep the product's shape, colors and label. Compare every color and detail against the real piece, and check that the file meets your marketplace's size rules.

How much do Toybox's small business tools cost?

Flyer Maker currently costs 80 credits per flyer (90 for 2K, 100 for 4K) and Product Mockup 75 per image, both usable on the Free plan once you have credits. Logo Generator needs a Pro plan and currently costs 80 to 230 credits a run. Plans currently start at $9.99 a month for 1,000 credits, and top-ups start at $4.99 for 500.
