A sticker mockup shows your sticker stuck where people will use it: a laptop lid, a water bottle, a notebook cover, or held between two fingers. The edge is the detail to get right, because it shows whether the sticker is cut to the shape of the art or sits on a square of backing. Below are the two cut types, common sizes, notes for staging a sample in Toybox AI's Product Mockup, Canva and template routes, cheap drafts in Image Generator Lite, and the limits.
Die-cut vs kiss-cut: what a sticker mockup must show
The cut type changes what the mockup has to show. Sticker Mule, a sticker printer, describes the difference this way. A die-cut sticker is trimmed through both layers, vinyl and paper backing, along the outline of the art, so nothing surrounds it. A kiss-cut sticker has only its vinyl cut and arrives on a larger square of backing, which can carry printing too. Once peeled, the two are the same sticker. A kiss-cut sticker arrives on its backing, so show that at least once. A die-cut sticker has no backing border when applied, so the picture should show a crisp outline and no white square around it.
What you can make with a sticker mockup
The most believable sticker scenes start from a real printed sticker stuck on a real item. Apply it, photograph the laptop, bottle or notebook, and Product Mockup moves that item into a fresh setting, one picture per run. Each part below says which Scene to select; copy its notes into "Anything else?".
Laptop lid stickers
Photograph the closed laptop with the sticker applied, pick Workspace, and add:

Photograph one sticker on its own, pick In hand, and add:

- Smooth out every bubble. A trapped bubble or a lifted corner on the sample shows up in every scene. Press it down from the center out before you take the photo.
- Angle the camera a little. Straight on, a sticker looks like a print on the surface. A slight angle with light from one side shows its thickness and edge.
- Give buyers a size cue. A 3-inch sticker and a 6-inch one look the same on their own. A laptop, a bottle or a hand in the frame shows the real size.
- Keep the finish honest. Printful's die-cut stickers are matte vinyl. If a result adds a glossy shine the real sticker doesn't have, run it again with "matte finish, no shine" in the notes.
- Shoot a sticker pack together. Lay the whole set on a plain surface in a loose grid and photograph it once, so buyers see every design in one image.
Sticker mockup generator and template options
Without a printed sample, you can still show the design on a stock scene:
- Canva. Canva's generator for stickers costs nothing and offers free and premium templates in circle, oval, square and rectangle shapes, on laptops, notebooks, envelopes and tumblers. Choose a template in the same shape as your sticker's cut: a circle template can't show an irregular die-cut outline. Canva marks Magic Edit, Magic Eraser, Background Remover and Magic Expand as Pro.
- PSD templates. Download a sticker mockup template from a free mockup site and you'll often get a PSD whose artwork sits in a smart object. Photopea opens it in a browser, and the t-shirt mockup guide shows how to swap your design in.
- Supplier generators. If a print partner makes your stickers, its generator shows your file on its own product. Printful charges nothing for these, stickers included.
- Cheap AI drafts. Image Generator Lite makes one 1K image for 35 credits (currently), handy for comparing sticker ideas before you print any. Load the design into "Photos to edit or reference" (it takes up to 3), then write the scene, such as "this sticker design stuck on the lid of a silver laptop on a wooden desk". It has 14 shapes, including Square 1:1 and Social 4:5. Expect the sticker in a draft to differ from your file, so use drafts to choose designs, not as listing photos.
Limits to know
- Cut edges can change. Fine points and thin white borders around a die-cut outline can come back rounded, thicker or missing. Compare the outline with your cut file in every result.
- A sticker file won't be applied for you. Uploading the design file gives Product Mockup a flat print to stage, not a sticker on a laptop or bottle, so apply a printed sample first.
- No transparent files. Toybox can't output transparency from any tool, and Etsy doesn't support transparent PNGs anyway, showing the clear areas as black. Plan on a background in every image.
- Small text needs a check. Tiny lettering on a 2-inch sticker can come back blurred or misspelled. With a Pro plan, describe the fix in "Want to change something?" (currently 85 credits); on the Free plan, run it again from a closer photo.
How to make your sticker mockup in Product Mockup
Get a photo of the sticker on its item, or by itself, as a JPG or PNG of 10 MB or less.
- Apply a printed sample to the laptop, bottle or notebook, press out any bubbles, and photograph it in daylight.
- Go to Product Mockup, log in or make a free account, and load the photo into "Product photo".
- Select a Scene: Workspace for a laptop, Outdoors for a bottle, Flat lay for a notebook, In hand for scale, or Custom with your own setting.
- Under More options, pick the Size and write your notes in "Anything else?".
- Start it with Create mockup, which takes about 30 seconds.
- Check the cut edge, the colors and any lettering up close against the sample.
- Save the image to your gallery or download it; unsaved ones are gone after 24 hours.
A sticker scene is currently 75 credits, even on the Free plan, which is close to 75 cents at top-up rates.
