A bakery flyer has a short life: a pastry box insert, a card by the register, a sheet in the front window, a post in the neighborhood group. It works when it names one thing to buy and a date to buy it by. Here are the lines to print, bakery flyer ideas and wording for openings, specials, custom cakes and holiday pre-orders, the allergen and cottage food rules, and how to make one in Flyer Maker. A school or church fundraiser needs the bake sale flyer page instead.
What to put on a bakery flyer
These are the details a customer needs, biggest type first. Lines 3, 4 and 8 are the bakery-specific ones; the rest belong on any small business flyer.
Must have
- The item or offer as the headline. "Cardamom Buns Are Back" says more than the bakery's name set in large type.
- The price. Per item, per half dozen or per dozen. "Cookies $3, or 6 for $15."
- An order-by date for anything made to order: "Order by Saturday, November 21".
- A pickup window. The date and a time range, such as "Wednesday, November 25, 7 AM to 6 PM".
- Days and hours. "Tuesday to Sunday, 7 AM to 3 PM". If you close on Mondays, say so.
- Address and a parking note, or your stall number at the farmers market.
- How to order. Phone, website, or in store, and whether a deposit is due.
- An allergen line. "Contains wheat, milk and eggs. Our kitchen uses tree nuts."
Optional
- Servings for cakes. "8-inch round, serves 14 to 18."
- Lead time for custom work. "Order 5 days ahead."
- Dietary options, and whether they're made in a shared kitchen ("vegan, made in a kitchen that uses milk and eggs").
- A wholesale line for cafes: "Pastries for your coffee shop, delivered by 7 AM".
- Your weekly bake schedule, if certain breads only come out on certain days.
Bakery flyer ideas and wording
These wording sets use a made-up bakery and prices. Replace them with yours.
Grand opening or a new location
- Headlines: "Now Open on Linden Street" or "Our Ovens Are On"
- Supporting line: "Opening weekend, Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18, 7 AM to 3 PM"
- Call to action: "Free mini croissant with any coffee or pastry, while they last."
An opening needs the date, the hours and a reason to come that day. The grand opening flyer page covers ribbon cuttings and the rules for "free" offers.
Weekly specials and bake schedules
- Headlines: "Sourdough Tuesdays and Fridays" or "This Week: Pear Almond Tart"
- Supporting line: "Out of the oven at 7 AM. Loaves $9, usually gone by noon." Only print "gone by noon" if it's true.
- Call to action: "Reserve a loaf by text, 555-0131."
Custom cake orders
- Headlines: "Celebration Cakes, Made to Order" or "Birthday Cakes From $38"
- Supporting line: "6-inch serves 8 to 10, 8-inch serves 14 to 18. Order 5 days ahead."
- Call to action: "Call or email to book your date. $20 deposit."
List sizes with servings, not just diameters. A parent ordering for 16 guests needs to know which size feeds 16.
Thanksgiving pie pre-orders
- Headlines: "Thanksgiving Pies, Order Early" or "Reserve Your Pie"
- Supporting line: "Pumpkin $24, apple crumb $26, bourbon pecan $30. Order by Saturday, November 21."
- Call to action: "Pick up Wednesday, November 25, 7 AM to 6 PM. Order at the counter or online."
Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 26, so a Wednesday pickup puts the pie in the customer's kitchen the day before. For turkey dinners and community meals, see the Thanksgiving flyer ideas.
Christmas cookie boxes and holiday pre-orders
- Headlines: "Holiday Cookie Boxes" or "Christmas Eve Pickup, Order by December 15"
- Supporting line: "Two dozen assorted cookies, $38. Pick up Wednesday, December 23 or Thursday, December 24 until 2 PM."
- Call to action: "Order online or call. Orders close Tuesday, December 15."
Wholesale for cafes
- Headlines: "Fresh Pastries for Your Cafe" or "Wholesale Croissants, Delivered by 7 AM"
- Supporting line: "Minimum 2 dozen, delivered Tuesday to Saturday within 5 miles."
- Call to action: "Email for the wholesale price list."
A wholesale flyer goes to cafe owners, so the price per dozen and the delivery days matter more than a photo. The coffee shop flyers page shows the promotions your pastries would end up on.
Allergen lines and home bakery checks
Name the allergens you bake with. The FDA lists nine major food allergens: milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans and sesame. A bakery flyer that lists pies or cookies can say "Contains wheat, milk and eggs; pecan pie contains tree nuts".
Say it when a kitchen is shared. "Gluten-free, made in a kitchen that uses wheat flour" is honest and answers the question a customer with celiac disease will ask.
Home bakers: check your cottage food rules first. Most states have cottage food rules for home kitchens, and many ask for a registration or permit through the local health department. Some let you sell only straight to customers, in person, by phone or online, and ask for more before you sell through cafes or markets. If your flyer offers pastries to cafes, check that step before you print.
Design tips for bakery flyers
Show your own bakes when you can. A customer who orders from the flyer expects the pastry in the picture. Photos in a Flyer Maker design are generated rather than uploaded, so the croissant on it may not look like yours. For a flyer that shows your own cake, start from your photo in Smart Editor (Pro plan) and type the headline and price to put on it.
Put the deadline in a box. On a pre-order flyer, the order-by date and pickup window are the two lines people need later. A colored band or box around them makes them easy to find on the fridge.
Keep price lists in columns. Names flush left, prices lined up at the right edge. Flyer Maker can set a price list of about a dozen items with prices; choose the Packed layout for longer lists and proofread every price.
Size the box insert to the box. A card that's wider than the box gets folded, and a fold can land right on the phone number.
Picking a bakery flyer background
A bakery flyer background should sit behind the text, not compete with it. Kraft paper tones, cream, soft pastels and flour-dusted wood read as a bakery and keep dark text legible. A full photo of a pastry case behind a price list makes both hard to read, so put the photo in one half and the prices on a plain panel. For bakery flyer design ideas by season, deep green and gold suit December, and warm orange and cream suit November.
Bakery flyer sizes and printing
Size the bag and box inserts first, then the window and social versions.
| Where it goes | Size | Pixels at 300 DPI | In Flyer Maker |

Vistaprint sells 4 x 6 and 5.5 x 8.5 inch cards among its standard postcard sizes, so both are easy to order. For printing, choose 2K or 4K. Downloads are PNG images. The flyer size guide covers every other size.

- Open Flyer Maker and fill in "Describe your flyer". Start with a quoted headline, then the items and prices, the order-by date, the pickup window, your hours, address, allergen line and how to order.
- Upload the logo from your boxes and sign with "Add your logo".
- Choose the Size. Tall (3:4) for box inserts and the window, Portrait (4:5) for Instagram, Wide (5:4) for an email to wholesale customers.
- Set the look under "More options". Sale works for pre-orders, Announcement for openings, and Business for price lists. Pastel or Light colors match cream and pastry tones; Packed layout fits a long price list.
- Put your phone and order link in "Contact info", written exactly the way customers should dial or type them.
- Select "Create flyer". The design is usually ready in about 30 seconds.
- Read every price, date and allergen word. Check that the pickup weekday matches the date. To change one, type it into "Want to change something?" under the flyer (currently 60 credits, 70 for 2K, 90 for 4K), or edit the description and generate again.
For menus, social captions and food photos beyond the flyer, the guide to AI tools for restaurants covers bakeries and cafes too.
