The quickest way to unblur a picture is the Unblur tool in Google Photos, which works on Android phones and on iPhones. How well any tool does depends on the kind of blur. A little camera shake or a missed focus point usually sharpens up cleanly, while a heavily smeared face or a line of blurry text comes back as the tool's best guess. What kind of blur you have
Zoom in before you pick a tool. The pattern of the blur tells you the cause, and the cause tells you whether a fix will look real.

Several phone apps handle mild blur at no cost. These are the main options as of September 2026:

How to unblur a picture on iPhone
Apple's Photos app has no dedicated unblur tool, so install Google Photos, which needs iOS 18 or later. Google sets 3 GB of RAM as the floor for most of its edits on iPhone, and the improved Unblur asks for 6 GB.
- Open Google Photos, select the blurry shot, and tap Edit.
- Find Actions, which may sit under Tools.
- Tap Unblur and wait while it processes.
- Tap and hold the preview to compare it with the original.
- Tap Save as copy so your untouched photo stays in your library.
For a photo that is only a little soft, Snapseed is a lighter option. Open it, choose Details, and swipe to Sharpening or Structure. Structure brings out texture but leaves the edges of objects alone, so use it on fabric, hair and wood. Keep both low, then zoom in on edges: bright outlines around hair or rooftops mean you pushed it too far.
How to unblur a picture on Android
On Android, Unblur sits in the same place in Google Photos. Google asks for Android 8.0 or newer with 3 GB of RAM for most edits, and 4 GB for the improved Unblur. Since mid-May 2024, Photo Unblur hasn't required a Google subscription.
- Tap the blurry photo in Google Photos, then Edit.
- Go to Actions and pick Unblur. You can also tap Search and type "Unblur".
- If the app asks, tap Install to download the tool, preferably on Wi-Fi.
- Zoom to full size and look at eyes, hair and lettering.
- Pick Save as copy so the original stays as it was. If you pick Save instead, you can undo it later from Edit with Revert.
How to unblur a picture on Samsung
Galaxy AI phones can offer Remaster, one of the enhancement suggestions Gallery makes for some photos. In Gallery, swipe up on the soft photo to see its suggestions. When Remaster shows up, tap it and check the result at full size. Gallery picks suggestions photo by photo, and some photos get none. Samsung limits Galaxy AI editing to select models on Android 14 with One UI 6.1 or newer, signed in to a Samsung account and online.
The more direct route is Samsung's Galaxy Enhance-X app (in the Galaxy Store), which Samsung says includes blur removal and lists Sharpen, Restore picture and Increase resolution among its tools. Samsung lists Android 14 with One UI 6.0 or above as the requirement.
How to unblur a picture on Canva
In Canva, the tool for a blurry image is Upscale, which Canva describes as an AI tool that sharpens blurry or pixelated images. Canva picks the upscale level, 4x or 16x, for each image, and you can't choose it.
- Open a design and select the image.
- Select Edit.
- Under Tools, select Upscale. The image upscales on its own.
Upscale takes JPG or PNG images between 10 x 10 pixels and 25 megapixels, produces up to 50 megapixels, and works only once per image. Canva notes that results may vary with faces and text. On Canva Free, it draws from the monthly AI allowance, which allows up to 20 Standard or Premium AI tool uses. One naming trap: Canva's Auto Focus is a different tool. It softens the background around your subject, with sliders for blur strength and which part stays sharp. For a picture that is blurry all over, Upscale is the tool to try.
What AI unblur can't recover
No unblur tool can find detail the camera never recorded. An AI tool fills in what that detail probably looked like, based on the shapes that are left. For eyes, hair and fabric in a family photo, a close guess is often fine. For anything that has to be exact, the result can look right and still be wrong.
- Text and numbers. A blurry sign, menu or receipt can come back with sharp letters that spell something else. Read every word against what you know was there.
- License plates. Characters get invented, so an unblurred plate proves nothing.
- Small faces in a crowd. A face made of a few pixels gets redrawn as a plausible face, which may not look like the person.
- Heavy motion streaks. When a hand or face moved a lot, the tool can redraw fingers or a jawline in a slightly different shape.

When not to unblur a picture
Leave a photo alone when someone blurred part of it on purpose. News photos, real estate listings and shared screenshots often blur faces, house numbers, plates or account details to protect someone. Running them through an unblur tool can't reveal the original, and posting the invented version can make it look as if it did.
The same goes for your own records. Keep the original file of anything you might need later, such as an insurance photo or a picture of a receipt, and edit a copy.
Prevent blur on the next shot
Shake, missed focus and a dirty lens all happen before the shutter, so these habits stop most of it.
- Wipe the lens. Pocket lint and fingerprints give a hazy, glowing look that no app fully fixes. Supported iPhone models can spot a smudged lens and prompt you to clean it.
- Tap to focus. On iPhone, tap the subject on screen before you shoot so focus lands there, not on the background.
- Hold still in low light. Night mode on iPhone takes a longer exposure, so don't move until it finishes. Apple shows crosshairs when it detects motion; align them.
- Brace yourself. Tuck your elbows in or lean on a wall for dim indoor shots.

How to unblur a picture with Image Unblur
Image Unblur in Toybox sharpens a soft photo in any phone or computer browser, and it takes an optional note about what matters most in the picture. Image Unblur is open to Free-plan accounts at a current 75 credits per photo, so a new account's 20 free credits won't cover one.
- Open Image Unblur and log in, or create a free account and confirm your email.
- Add the blurry picture under "Your photo". It takes JPG or PNG files of 10 MB or less.
- For guidance, expand "More options" and write in "Notes" (500 characters at most).
- Tap "Sharpen photo". It usually takes about 30 seconds.
- Look closely at eyes, hair and lettering against the original.
- Keep the result by downloading the PNG or saving it to your gallery. Unsaved results disappear after 24 hours.
