What AI tool can I use to generate images?

Use an image generator: you type a description and it draws a new picture. ChatGPT Images is on every ChatGPT plan, though image generation on the Free plan is limited and slower than on paid plans. Gemini makes images for anyone 13 or older on a personal account, and without a Google AI plan its downloads are 1K. In the Meta AI app, a request that opens with the word "imagine" (or the phrase "create an image") returns several pictures to choose from.

What AI tool can I use to edit photos?

Pick the photo tool by the size of the change. To erase a stranger in the background or a parked car, the built-in eraser on your phone usually does the job. Clean Up in Apple's Photos app needs an iPhone that runs Apple Intelligence (the iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, iPhone Air, or an iPhone 16 or later model) on iOS 18.1 or later. Google began rolling Magic Eraser out to every Google Photos user, with no subscription, on May 15, 2024.

To change what's in the picture, such as a gray sky swapped for a blue one or a red shirt made navy, use an editor you instruct in words. ChatGPT Images takes an uploaded photo plus a description of the change, and Gemini edits uploaded photos for personal accounts aged 18 and older. What AI tool can I use to generate videos?

Use a video generator, and expect to pay for it. In the Gemini app, video comes from Gemini Omni, which Google lists as 10 second clips for users 18 and older on a paid Google AI plan. The Meta AI app can animate an image into a short clip it calls a vibe, where the app is available.

• Receipts. Photograph one receipt flat, in even light, with all four edges in the frame. Receipt Scanner returns the store, date, items, subtotal, tax and total as copyable text, and the "What to include" chips add payment or notes. It doesn't check the math, so add up the items yourself, and there's no spreadsheet export. Keep the paper or a clear photo too: the IRS's general rule is to keep records that support a tax return for 3 years, and longer in some cases.
• Handwritten notes. Handwriting to Text types up one photographed page. Choose "Plain text" for paragraphs, "Bullets" for a list, or "Structured" for headings. Printed text in the photo is skipped and unreadable words are marked, so check names, numbers and dates against the page.
• Leftovers. Leftover Chef makes one recipe from a fridge photo or a typed list of up to 500 characters. It has no diet or allergy settings, so check every ingredient against allergies yourself. USDA guidance is to refrigerate leftovers within 2 hours of cooking and eat them within 3 to 4 days.
• Plants and animals. Plant Identifier gives a common and scientific name and a care guide from one close-up of the leaves or flowers. It doesn't tell you whether a plant is toxic. Never rely on an AI photo ID to decide whether a plant is safe to eat or safe for pets; check the ASPCA's toxic and non-toxic plants lists for dogs, cats and horses instead. How to describe your job to an AI tool finder

• Name the finished thing. "A flyer I can print for a bulletin board" points to a different tool than "a picture of a bakery".
• Say what you're starting from. "I have a photo of my living room" rules out tools that only work from text, and "I only have an idea" rules out editors.
• Give the shape or the place it goes. "Vertical, for a phone story" or "wide, for a slide" rules out tools that don't make that shape. A printed flyer is usually tall.
• Say what must not change. "Keep my face the same" or "keep the label on the jar readable" points you to an editor instead of a generator that draws something new.

Limits to know before you pick
