Hoodie Mockup Generator: Pullover, Zip-Up, Front and Back

A hoodie mockup shows your print or embroidery on a hooded sweatshirt, usually as a front view and a back view. Check the blank first: a zip-up splits a centered chest design, so its logo goes on the left chest. For AI scenes, photograph a printed sample and run one image per view, then compare the print with your file.

A hoodie mockup shows your print or embroidery on a hooded sweatshirt so buyers can see it before anything ships. Hoodies bring details a tee doesn't have: a front pocket under the chest print, a zipper on zip-ups, and a hood that lies across the top of the back. Below are pullover and zip-up placements, front and back shots, embroidery close-ups, PNG and template files, and staging notes you can paste into Toybox AI's Product Mockup. The routes for a design file with no sample are on the t-shirt mockup page.

Pullover vs zip-up hoodie mockups

The blank decides where a design can sit, so check it before you mock anything up. Printful's catalog showed these details for two common blanks as of September 2026:

Detail Pullover (Gildan 18500) Zip-up (Gildan 18600)
Front print Yes Yes
Back print Yes Yes
Left chest embroidery Yes Yes
Center chest embroidery Yes No
Wrist embroidery Left and right Left and right
Pockets One front pouch pocket Front pouch pockets
Hood Double-lined, matching drawcord Unlined, color-matched drawcord
Fabric 50% cotton, 50% polyester, 8.0 oz/yd² 50% cotton, 50% polyester, 8 oz/yd²

A zip-up has a metal zipper down the center that splits a centered chest design in two, and Printful offers no center chest embroidery on it. Put a zip-up's logo on the left chest or across the back. Mock the front up zipped at least to mid-chest, so the logo and the zipper both read cleanly. A pullover takes a centered front print, but its pouch pocket starts partway down the front, so check that a tall design ends above the pocket seam on your sample.

What you can make with a hoodie mockup

Photograph a printed or embroidered sample once, and Product Mockup can stage that same hoodie in every setting below, one image at a time. The Scene for each is named first; the staging notes belong in "Anything else?".

Hoodie mockup front and back views

Take two photos of the sample, one of each side, and give both identical notes so the views pair up. When you shoot the back, spread the hood out above the collar, since a hood left lying down hides the top of a back print. Use Flat lay with:

The hoodie lies flat and centered on a light oak floor, hood spread open above the collar, sleeves folded in at the elbows. Both drawstrings hang straight and even. Soft, even daylight. Camera directly overhead, leaving a little floor visible on every side. Keep the front print flat, fully visible and uncreased above the pocket.

Worn outdoors in cold weather

For a worn shot in fall or winter listings, choose On a model and describe cool weather:

An adult model wearing the hoodie walks along a leaf-covered park path in autumn, hood down, one hand in the front pocket. Frame from the knees up. Golden late-afternoon light from behind the camera, background softly blurred. Keep the chest print fully visible above the hand and the pocket, with no scarf or hair covering it.

Zip-up hoodie shots

A zip-up with a left-chest logo needs the zipper height spelled out. With On a model selected:

An adult model wears the hoodie zipped to mid-chest, hood down, standing against a gray concrete wall with arms relaxed. Frame from the waist to just above the head. Soft overcast light with no harsh shadows. Keep the left chest logo sharp and facing the camera, and the zipper straight.

Embroidered logo close-ups

A flat print file can't show raised thread, so an embroidered logo needs either an embroidery mockup generator (Printful has one for stitched products) or a photo of a real stitched sample. Photograph it in low side light, choose Studio, and add:

Tight close-up of the embroidered chest logo in the center of the frame, with the fleece texture visible around it. Low light from the left so each stitch casts a small shadow. Shallow depth of field, edges of the frame softly blurred. Keep the thread colors and stitch direction as photographed.

Tips for better hoodie mockup results

  • Steam out the folds. An 8 oz fleece hoodie can arrive creased from shipping, and the creases show in a flat lay. Steam or tumble the sample for a few minutes before you photograph it.
  • Don't sell a brighter white than you ship. Printful warns that the white Gildan hoodies may look off-white because of the fabric. Photograph the real sample in daylight and keep that shade in the mockup.
  • Straighten the hood and strings. A twisted drawcord or a hood folded to one side reads as sloppy in a flat lay. Fix them by hand before the photo, because they carry into the scene.
  • Match the season you're listing for. For fall and winter drops, stage the hoodie on an autumn path, a porch with a blanket or a snowy street, and change the scene when the season does.
  • Show one worn shot for fit. A flat hoodie hides the fit, so add at least one On a model image, and put the supplier's size chart in the listing.

Hoodie mockup PNG, PSD and Canva templates

A PNG with a transparent background is the kind you drop onto a banner or a collection page. Toybox can't produce one, because none of its tools output transparency and each result includes the scene behind the product. Pick Studio ("Clean white background") for the plainest look; the white is AI-made and may not match pure white exactly. For Etsy, skip transparency anyway. Etsy doesn't support transparent PNG files, and it turns clear areas black on the listing.

Many free hoodie mockup template files are PSDs built around a smart object where your art goes. Photopea edits them in a browser, following the Photopea steps on the t-shirt page. Printify's generator downloads mockups as PNG files with no watermark, and it offers front close-ups and layered outfit views for hoodies.

Canva's hoodie mockup generator is free and runs in the browser. Pick a template, upload your design, adjust it, and download a JPG or PNG. Canva's own advice is to make two or more mockups from different angles, such as the front and the back. Its Magic Eraser and Magic Expand editing tools are marked Pro.

Limits to know

  • A design file doesn't become a hoodie. Product Mockup stages the item in your photo; a flat artwork file uploaded there stays a flat sheet. Without a sample, use a supplier generator or a template, or give Image Generator the design as a reference photo with a line like "this design printed on the back of a black pullover hoodie, worn by a model facing away". Expect the print to differ from your artwork in places.
  • Stitches can flatten. Check that an embroidered logo still looks raised and stitched in the result. If it comes back flat, take a closer, side-lit photo and run it again.
  • Zippers, cords and pocket seams can shift. Look at the hardware and seams before you list, since a buyer will compare them with what arrives.
  • One view per run. A front and a back are two images, currently 150 credits in Product Mockup.
  • Corrections depend on the plan. Pro subscribers can ask for a fix in "Want to change something?", currently 85 credits. Free-plan users rerun it with edited notes.

How to make your hoodie mockup in Product Mockup

Bring one photo for each view of the printed hoodie. JPG and PNG files work, up to 10 MB each.

  1. Spread the hoodie on a plain floor or sheet near a window, hood open and strings even, and photograph it from straight above.
  2. Go to Product Mockup, create an account or log in, then place the photo in the "Product photo" slot.
  3. Set the Scene to match the shot: Flat lay when you want the two sides, On a model when it should be worn, Studio for embroidery detail.
  4. In More options, choose the Size (Square 1:1 or Landscape 3:2 if it will lead the listing) and enter your staging notes under "Anything else?".
  5. Click Create mockup, then give it roughly 30 seconds.
  6. Check the print or stitching, the zipper, the drawcords and the pocket against your sample.
  7. Keep the image by saving it to your gallery, where it lasts beyond 24 hours, or by downloading the PNG.

At the current 75 credits an image, a front and back pair comes to 150 credits, around $1.50 at top-up rates, and the Free plan can run it. The 20 free credits on a new account aren't enough for one image. The print-on-demand mockups guide covers the rest of the listing set, and the tote bag mockup page has scenes for matching merch.

Frequently asked questions

Can I make a hoodie mockup for free?

Yes, from a design file. Printful's mockup generator is free for every product in its catalog, hoodies included, Printify's is free with watermark-free PNG downloads, and Canva has a free hoodie mockup generator. A PSD template in Photopea also costs nothing. Toybox charges credits instead: Product Mockup is currently 75 per image, more than a new account's 20 starter credits.

How do I make a hoodie mockup front and back?

Make two images. In a supplier generator, add a front print and a back print to the product and download both views. In Product Mockup, shoot your printed sample once from each side and run both shots through one Scene with matching notes, currently 75 credits apiece.

Can Toybox make a hoodie mockup PNG with a transparent background?

No. Toybox downloads are PNG files that always include a scene behind the product, and none of its tools output transparency. Studio ("Clean white background") gets you closest. For Etsy, a background is what you want anyway: Etsy doesn't support transparent PNGs and shows the transparent parts as black.

Where should the logo go on a zip-up hoodie?

On the left chest, or large on the back. The zipper runs through the center, so a centered front design gets split in two. Printful's Gildan 18600 zip hoodie offers left chest embroidery but no center chest option, while its Gildan 18500 pullover offers both.

What happens to the hoodie photo I upload to Toybox?

Toybox's privacy policy says uploads are sent to its AI providers to make your result and aren't used to train AI models. Results you don't save can be opened for 24 hours, and you can delete saved items, or your entire account, at any time. The privacy page has the full wording.
