A YouTube banner AI generator turns a written description into the wide image at the top of your channel, with no template to start from. The catch is YouTube's safe area: the edges get cropped on some devices, so text and logos belong in a strip in the middle. The numbers come first, then prompts built around that strip.
YouTube banner size, safe area and file limit
YouTube's banner rules come down to one 16:9 image that still makes sense after the edges are cut off. YouTube's channel branding numbers, as of September 2026:

The safe area scales with the banner. A 2560 x 1440 banner is 1.25 times the minimum (2560 / 2048 = 1.25), so its safe area is about 1544 x 423 pixels (1235 x 1.25 and 338 x 1.25). Either way, the safe area is about 60% of the banner's width and 29% of its height (1235 / 2048 and 338 / 1152), so most of the image is background that some devices will crop away.
YouTube also asks you not to add shadows, borders or frames to the file, and it uses the same banner on computers, phones and TVs, showing it differently on each.
What you can make with a YouTube banner AI generator
An AI banner is channel art you can describe in a few sentences and remake whenever the channel changes. As a YouTube banner AI maker, Toybox splits the job in two: Image Generator for the wide art, Logo Generator for the square icon. You can make:
- Channel art with your schedule on it. YouTube's tips suggest putting your upload schedule on the banner so viewers know which day to return, for example "New videos every Friday".
- A banner that matches your thumbnails. Use the same two or three colors and the same kind of scene as your thumbnails, so the channel looks like one thing. The niche thumbnail ideas are a starting point for that shared look.

A banner that survives cropping keeps everything important in the safe area and treats the rest as background.
- Center the text and keep it short. The safe area is only about 60% of the width and 29% of the height, so one centered line of 3 to 6 words is the safest layout. Two lines leave less room for each word.
- Describe the edges as well as the center. Ask for scenery, texture or a pattern that runs to both sides, as the prompts above do, because larger screens show the whole image while other devices crop the sides.
- Turn on "Enhanced quality" for text. In Image Generator it's under "More options", described as "Sharper text and logos, best for designs with words", and it currently adds 45 credits.
- Leave text out if it keeps going wrong. Ask for the scene only, with "no text", and add your channel name in any image editor afterward. AI can misspell words, and a banner is seen on every visit.
- Keep the palette to two or three colors that match your profile picture and thumbnails, following YouTube's advice to keep channel visuals consistent.
- Check the crop preview. When you upload in YouTube Studio, select a preview and adjust the crop before you publish.
Limits to know
Image Generator makes the right shape, but plan around these limits before you upload:
- Pixel size isn't fixed. Toybox doesn't set a pixel size for Image Generator, so the download may be smaller than YouTube's 2048 x 1152 minimum. Check the width and height before it goes to YouTube. On a Pro plan, a too-small banner can go to Smart Editor through "Open in Smart Editor": under "More options", choose Shape Wide 16:9 and Quality 4K, and ask for no changes in "What should change?". That setting outputs 3840 x 2160 pixels and currently costs 110 credits. Because Smart Editor redraws the entire image, proofread the channel name afterward. Its HD Wide setting, 1824 x 1024, is still below YouTube's minimum.
- Big files can pass the 6 MB limit. A 3840 x 2160 PNG can be heavier than that. Resize it to 2560 x 1440: YouTube suggests Preview on a Mac or Microsoft Photos on Windows. In Preview, choose Tools, then Adjust Size, keep "Scale proportionally" on, and enter 2560 as the width. If the file is still over 6 MB, export it as a JPG.
- Logo Generator needs a Pro plan and makes PNGs. It doesn't create transparent or vector files, so a watermark made from it keeps its background square. It currently costs 80 credits for one layout and 130 for two.
- No real people or other brands. Don't put other creators, celebrities, game characters or brand logos on your banner. Toybox's Terms prohibit "generating images of real people without their explicit consent".
How to make a YouTube banner in Image Generator
- Open Image Generator and sign in with a free account (new accounts confirm their email address first).
- Type your banner into "Describe your image": the shape, a scene that reaches both edges, a calm center, and the exact text in quotes. Add up to 3 reference photos if you want your own setup in it.
- Under Size, choose Wide (16:9), the option labeled "YouTube".
- If the banner has words, open "More options" and switch on "Enhanced quality".
- Click "Create image". Image Generator usually finishes in about 30 seconds and currently costs 50 credits, or 95 with "Enhanced quality".
- Check the downloaded PNG against YouTube's rules: at least 2048 x 1152 pixels and 6 MB or smaller. If it misses either, use the Smart Editor or Preview fixes under "Limits to know".
- In YouTube Studio, select Customization, then Profile. Under the banner image, click CHANGE, choose your file, select a preview to adjust the crop, click DONE, then PUBLISH.
